It's true. Cinema and smoking go together.
Wafting cigarette smoke looks beautiful in black and white, and actors just love cigarettes as props [even though they are a pain in the ass for continuity editors]. Think of the opening credits of The Big Sleep, or Hoffman as Bernstein smoking everywhere--including the elevator--in All the President's Men, or Evelyn Mulwray in Chinatown anxiously lighting another cigarette when she already has one lit.
Still, the cinetrix is more than a little disturbed by this site she stumbled across: the Female Celebrity Smoking List.
I am not making this up. You can search alphabetically by actress name or movies by year, even by brand preference. Eeeuuwww. It's not clear to me whom this site is intended for--fetishists or anti-smoking zealots.
Well, smoke 'em if you got 'em, I guess.
