IndieWIRE has launched "blogs.indiewire.com, an invitation-only blogging community that includes indieWIRE staff, contributors and a collection of participants in the independent film industry." Here's what they have to say for themselves:
This community is hosted by indieWIRE.com, but the individual blogs are owned by the people writing them. We see it as a way to help empower more independent voices in the community, engage a wider range of regional and specific issues that indieWIRE could never cover on its own, and a way for the industry to get to know the contributors to indieWIRE and the independent film community in a more informal setting. We hope we can build an online environment that feels as much like the real-life experiences of participating in the independent film community as the Web can offer -- surprising, informal, mutually supportive and deeply interconnected. In the process, indieWIRE will be helping aggregate these voices together into a single stream (and RSS feed) and plans to highlight some of these thoughts, musings and sightings on indieWIRE.com and in indieWIRE:Daily. Expect more news and early launches leading up to April 23rd.
Ah, yes. Empowerment! Informal empowerment, at that.
Forgive me. The cinetrix is always suspicious when an established media outlet mentions "highlighting" blog content. It smacks of "we're getting suckers to generate copy for free!" But any service that highlights the hilarious Morgan Spurlock, the man behind Super Size Me, gets a pass, for now. [If you're in the market for a giggle, click on the What is a Blog? link.]
Also, the cinetrix is willing to forgive typos during an alpha launch, but come the "more formal launch" on April 23, it's gloves off, kiddies. As Grambo would say, DEVELOPING.... [via Gothamist]
