Who knew? Former Brat Packer Andrew McCarthy adapted a short story by Frank O'Connor for his directorial debut, the short film News for the Church, which played last night as part of the Chicago Irish Film Festival. [via]
Oh, the cinetrix harbored such an embarrassing crush on Mr. McCarthy in his mid 80s weak-willed wimp roles. [Do you know how difficult it was to find a VHS copy of Waiting for the Moon in the suburbs?] Truth be told, one of her earliest pieces of film writing argued that his coming-of-age flick Heaven Help Us transcended its genre limitations. Really. This was in an application essay for some smartypants summer program, to which I was not accepted. [Guess the administration couldn't know about this. Heh, I was ahead of my time.]
Anyhow, that's neither here nor there. The cinetrix has revealed a truly shameful cinematic crush: I've shown you mine, now you show me yours. Who's the person that secretly tops your list?
I stand by ready to be shocked and appalled.
