There's been a lot that's laudable* about adventure-in-synergy site Film in Focus since its launch, but this recent piece about The Nanny Diaries authors' five favorite films about domestics is kind of sticking in my craw. I can't tell whether it's the use of the word "domestics," the fact that only one of the films features a "domestic" [Whoopi Goldberg, no less] who's not white, or the description of Emma McLaughlin's and Nicola Kraus's most recent novel, "Dedication, about a woman whose high school boyfriend becomes a pop superstar world famous for songs about her." Which sounds an awful lot like the plot of, um, "Sk8rBoi."
Or it could just be that it's been raining all fucking day and I'm cranky. Tough to say. Your thoughts?
