Days like this it's tough to be an O.G. [old, geriatric] film blogger.
The cinetrix wrestled for the better part of a couple hours about whether or not she should share this. OK, not really. The lesson here is do your homework, people, or get spanked.
An email arrived this morning, with the subject line "Blog for the 2008 Spirit Awards."
Hello from the 2008 Film Independent Spirit Awards!
The 2008 Spirit Awards are coming up on February 23rd, and we want bloggers like you involved. We found your blog, we think it's great, and we want you to be part of our online community.
What does that mean? It means we'll hook you up! Amongst other things, we'll give you:
-Special pre-awards show media: photos and videos that no one else will have, which you can put in your blog
-Information leaks about the upcoming show, attendees, honorees and more
-An exclusive chance to become an active blogger on the Spirit Awards Blog itself (and distribute your own blog)
-A REALLY exclusive chance to become an official, on-site and full-access Spirit Awards blogger!
You like film, and we like you, so if you want to be a part of the 2008 Spirit Awards blogger community, respond to this email and let us know. There's no commitment to participate or obligation to blog. We'd love to have you join, because the online community is part of what makes independent film and the Spirit Awards so great.
We've also included the HTML code to embed the "Official Spirit Awards Blogger" badge on your blog (see below).
So congratulations! You should be proud of yourself, because we want you to be part of this one-of-a-kind opportunity.
See you at the show,
The 2008 Film Independent Spirit Awards
[I removed the badge code because that whole bit is truly beyond insulting.]
Longtime Pullquote readers already know why this solicitation is so funny. For the rest of youse, I've appended my reply:
Thank you so much for getting in touch. You may be interested in the blog I did about the Spirits back when Bravo still broadcast the awards,
and I invite you to consider it when you determine who will be the
recipient of "A REALLY exclusive chance to become an official, on-site
and full-access Spirit Awards blogger!"
Best regards,
cinetrix
That's right, the cinetrix is really proud of herself for blogging the Spirits--in 2005--and getting paid. As the producer of that long-ago venture observed when I shared this, "Good to know people are still building business models out of not paying bloggers."
Well, there goes my chance to be flown to LA. But like they say, it's an honor just to be nominated. You like me! You really like me! Annnnnd scene.
