The cinetrix has been joking since December that she wanted to write a post with this title.
I took no notes. But Elizabeth Olsen + Jody Lee Lipes cinematography + John Hawkes = riveting atmospheric hokum. Olsen's face is like water, curved and flat, and her body shifts from seemingly gamine to surprisingly fleshy. Aside: I saw this flick in December with my friend Daniel, who promptly developed a raging man/cinematographer crush on Lipes. Flashforward to February, when Lipes' partner Ellen Bar came through town with NY Export: Opus Jazz. Daniel felt it was only sporting to warn Ellen about his feeling for her boo. Developing!

Granted, I am exactly the right age [slightly younger than Sesame Street] to be incapable of critical distance when it comes to the Muppets. But, augh. Forthwith, my notes, transcribed.

I can't help it. Every time I see Eddie Redmayne, all I can think of is him fucking his ginger mother Julianne Moore. Oh, and Michelle Williams was OK, I guess. Although the time I then spent last month watching The Prince and the Showgirl I'll never get back. I double-dog dare you not to fixate on Marilyn's visible navel in the clip above.
The moon was so full the night I saw this film it must've had a name and an entry in the Farmer's Almanac. Selected scribbles follow:
Tippi birds
horse like Edison elephant electrocuted
back & forth in a white stretch limo that can't corner
white people and "La Bamba"
how hard he tries to make her laugh
strangers in the night elevator music
Auntie Steelbreaker
"You don't touch the instrument."
Gainsbourg's skin (like Rampling)
hysterical horses upset of birds
It's taking part of our atmosphere
banality of golf carts / of evil

Manohla did a far better job of it. Although the clip below also has its merits.
